In 2010, China's Indium market showed a good trend of recovery of external demand and expansion of domestic demand, but serious smuggling activities disrupted the market, resulting in low price of indium price.

One, indium price concussion down

At the beginning of 2010, the highest price of indium in the domestic market reached 4000 yuan per kilogram, and then the fluctuation fell, most of the time wandered between 3000-3500 yuan / kg, and the international market indium price hovered around 520 US dollars per kilogram for the most part. In the case of foreign purchase recovery, the market price of indium has been rebounded by several waves, but because of the disruption of domestic smuggling activities, each rebound is limited and is not stable.

Two, production stability at a lower level

Indium production in China has been restored in 2010 after a continuous decline in the past three years, and a small number of enterprises have significantly increased production. According to the preliminary statistics of China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association, in 2010, the total output of refined indium was 336 tons (of which 10 tons of regenerated indium), an increase of 1.5% over 2009. Among them, the lead and zinc smelting enterprises comprehensively recover 237 tons of indium, accounting for 70.5% of the total output of the country.

Three. A significant increase in domestic consumption

In 2010, the demand for indium in the areas of low melting point alloys, batteries and solders increased significantly, with an estimated consumption of about 100 tons, an increase of 40% over the previous year. According to the information provided by the conductive glass industry, the domestic ITO target demand continued to grow in 2010, but the domestic ITO target production is very small and the supply is mainly dependent on imports. It is estimated that the annual import volume is about 300 tons (about 225 tons of indium). In this way, the consumption of indium has reached 300 tons.

According to statistics, there are 9 new or to be built projects in China at present, of which there are 6 of the eighth generation panel projects, which means that the demand for ITO targets for liquid crystal coating in China has great potential for growth. In 2012, the domestic demand for indium will be expected to exceed 500 tons in the industry only by 2012.

Four. Smuggling is rampant, exceeding the normal export volume

In July 1, 2009, China's export tariff of indium was reduced from 15% to 5%, and domestic normal exports gradually resumed. However, with the recovery of market demand, smuggling activities are increasingly rampant, which has exceeded the normal export. According to China Customs statistics, China exported 126 tons of indium in 2010, an increase of 160% over the same period last year. Among them, exports to Japan 73.6 tons, exported to Hongkong 37 tons, exported to the United States 425 kilograms.

However, according to the statistics of the United States and Japan Customs, Japan imported 158.9 tons of indium from China in 2010, 85.3 tons more than the export of China's customs statistics to Japan's refined indium. In the same period, the difference between China and the United States Customs statistics was 26.9 tons.
